One of the exciting projects that was announced in 2019 was that of talented actor Vikram Prabhu’s next which has been titled as 'Taanakkaran' that is helmed by debutant Tamizh, who is a former associate of Vetri Maaran.

Bankrolled by SR Prakash Babu, SR Prabhu, P Gobinath, Thanga Prabaharan R under the production house Potential Studios, which churned out films like 'Maya', 'Maanagaram' and SJ Suryah’s 'Monster', the film is said to be based on true events that happened in Tamil Nadu where the actor is said to play a police trainee in this film.

The teaser of the actor's upcoming movie was released on July 16 and the movie indicated that it is based on ill practices, violence and brutality practiced within the police training academy. In the teaser we see how trainees are beaten and physically abused while they are trained. In one scene, we hear a man stating that 18 people have lost their lives due to “Eeshwara Moorthy sir”, who helms the training programme.

At a time when fans have been waiting for an update regarding the movie, sources in the know revealed that the film has skipped theatrical release and is opting for an OTT premiere on Disney+Hotstar. The announcement regarding the same is expected to be announced soon. We also hear that 'Taanakkaran' has been censored U/A by the CBFC with a runtime of 2 hours and 43 minutes.

Apart from Vikram Prabhu, the film also features 'Nedunalvaadai' fame actor Anjali Nair, Malayalam Actor Lal and MS Bhaskar in prominent roles. The film features music composed by Ghibran. Madhesh Manickam is in charge of cinematography, while Philomin Raj of Master fame is on board as the editor.
