Acclaimed Indian filmmaker Rajiv Menon has worked as a director and cinematographer in several Indian regional film industries. He made his breakthrough as a cinematographer with Mani Ratnam's Bombay and later continued to collaborate with Ratnam on many other projects. He has also directed critically acclaimed Tamil films, Minsara Kanavu (1997) and Kandukondain Kandukondain (2000). After a sabbatical, Menon returned to directing with Sarvam Thaala Mayam (2019).
Its been over 20 years since the release of his second directorial venture "Kandukondain Kandukondain". The film features an ensemble cast of Mammootty, Ajith, Tabu, Aishwarya Rai and Abbas. Veteran actors Srividya, Raghuvaran and Manivannan played supporting roles. The soundtrack was scored by A. R. Rahman, and Ravi K. Chandran was the film's cinematographer. Kandukondain Kandukondain proved to be an important film in the careers of Ajith and Aishwarya Rai. The film showcased both Ajith's and Rai's acting versatility and cemented their successful careers in cinema.
The film received positive responses and performed well at the box office when it released. Even after so many years since , the audience still connect with the film and watch it whenever it is telecasted. This shows how well the film has aged.
Today, Rajiv Menon took to Instagram and wrote "Kandukondain complete 20 years, it’s life rekindled in public memory through repeated telecast on the sun network. Now a request for a sequel???? I am humbled! "
