Pradeep Kumar V, a 28-year-old entertainment reporter with The Hindu, passed away on Sunday night after developing complications from COVID-19. He had contracted the virus on May 10. He and his 61-year-old mother, both diabetics, found themselves at a Covid care centre in Velachery's Guru Nanak school, however, soon enough, vacated the premises citing unhygienic conditions on May 12 but not before bringing this to the attention of the concerned officials. The Greater Chennai Corporation had attended to the concerns Pradeep had mentioned in his tweets. Pradeep and his mother moved out of the facility after declaring that they are doing so against medical advice and chose to isolate themselves at their home.

Prior to joining The Hindu and switching to the entertainment beat, Pradeep was a reporter with leading newspapers like The New Indian Express, Deccan Chronicle and The Times of India, based out of Chennai and chiefly covered the corporation beat.
Several celebs paid their tributes to the young reporter.
