Popular singer, rapper and founding member of “The Roots”, Malik B, passed away suddenly on Wednesday. The band group had announced the death of the Philadelphia-born emcee in their official handle.
Some of his hit-tracks include You Got Me, Act Too, The Next Movement, and Distortion to Static. He was born as Malik Abdul Basit on November 14, 1972 in Philadelphia. However, the cause of his death is yet to be known.
Sharing this sad news on Instagram, The Roots wrote, “It is with heavy hearts and tearful eyes that we regretfully inform you of the passing of our beloved brother and long time Roots member Malik Abdul Basit.”
“May he be remembered for his devotion to Islam, His loving brotherhood and his innovation as one of the most gifted MCs of all time. We ask that you please respect his family and extended family in our time of mourning such a great loss,” they added.
