Director Vikraman made his debut with superhit movie 'Pudhu Vasantham' in 1990. The movie featured Murali, Anand Babu, Raja, Charle, and Sithara in the lead roles. His latest movie was Ninaithathu Yaaro which marked the debut of Mollywood actors Rajith Menon and Nimisha Suresh. Here are excerpts from an exclusive interview with the ace director.
Talking about his interest in movies, Director Vikraman says that it started from his childhood, and he used to try to watch a film per day. On why he chose direction, he says that he was inspired by Directors Bharathiraja and Sridhar, by seeing names in the title cards of their movies.
About his first movie Puthu Vasantham, and how that movie's story line was unconventional in those days, Vikraman says that it was due to the movie that he gained fame, respect and popularity. He says that the movie made quite an impact in the audience mindset, and he gained quite a fan base due to the same.
Vikraman's next superhit was Poove Unakkaaga, which was also Actor Vijay's first blockbuster. He shares an interesting story about the movie. He mentions that the tragic climax was not at first accepted by the producer R. B. Choudary. He also remarks that he shot both the alternative and original climaxes, had it censored and dubbed. But since he felt the tragic climax would be more apt for the movie, Vikraman requested R. B. Choudary to allow him to release with the same, and he says he was pleased with the result.
Talking about Thalapathy Vijay, Vikraman remarks that he had mentioned to people that Vijay would become the next superstar, because he knew of the actor's talent. He exclaims that he had never seen a person with such memory as Actor Vijay. He mentioned that Vijay is a refined actor keeps himself trained in all talents from childhood and hence his fame and popularity. He also mentioned that Actor / Politician Vijayakanth and Late Actor Murali are his favorites. Catch his complete interview here!
