With the Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu set to take place in May next year, political parties have begun campaigning. The Election Commission of India has been actively working on initiatives, including verification of voter ID cards. The Election Commission has issued a statement allocating symbols to the parties.
While TTV Dhinakaran’s AMMK has got its preferred choice - pressure cooker - Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam has been left in the lurch with the torchlight being given to a lesser known party.
In this light, Kamal Haasan had said he would take it up legally to get back the torchlight symbol and in that vein, the party has moved the Madras High Court for the same, asking it to direct the ECI to allocate MNM its preferred party symbol.
