Popular politician and the current MP for Thiruvananthapuram Shashi Tharoor, has voiced out in support of Thalapathy's Mersal and the freedom of speech and expression.

In his own unique way, he has painted the movie's title Mersal outside the Secretariat as a form of solidarity for the film and protest against the curbing of the freedom of speech and expression. This sort of support for a movie is unprecedented.
