With the rapid spread of the second wave of the coronavirus, the severity of the virus is increasing, causing problems such as lack of beds in hospitals and a paucity of oxygen. A little consolation, however, is that the infections have dropped slightly over the past few days.
Political party leaders, business people, celebrities and people from all walks of life have been contributing to the Tamil Nadu government for coronavirus-related relief fund. It is proving to be of great help in the treatment of those struggling with the virus.
Heartfulness Institute and Shri Ram Chandra Mission, recently launched a Covid-Care centre, offering quality healthcare services to the underprivileged and those in need of it, in partnership with CIPACA. The centre was launched at the Heartfulness Institute and Shri Ram Chandra Mission, Babuji Memorial Ashram, Manapakkam, Chennai. The covid-care centre is aimed towards aiding the efforts of the Tamil Nadu government in providing quality and timely access to healthcare services to its citizens. This initiative is organised under larger Heartfulness Covid Care Service initiative (covidcare@heartfulness.org)
The covid care centre was inaugurated by Udhayanidhi Stalin, MLA on May 26, 2021. Lingusamy, film director and Heartfulness Trainer and Dr. Raja Amarnath, MD-CIPACA, spoke about the salient features of the new facility. Tamil film personality Keerthy Suresh was also present on the occasion. The facility became operational from May 27, 2021.
The covid-care facility will manage mild and moderate cases and provide all quarantine facilities. Of the 50 beds in the care unit, 10 beds will provide oxygen support. The initiative is managed in conjunction with local medical authorities and CIPACA, a leading ICU provider in the country, which will manage the day-to-day operations of the covid care unit. Plans are also underway to increase the number of beds, if necessary.
Speaking at the launch, Linguswamy, Director at the Heartfulness Institute, said, "Heartfulness is about sustainable living. While yoga and meditation can provide immunity boosting benefits, the need-of-the-hour is to support our community through resources such as masks, food and quarantine facility for the underprivileged. Our covid-care center is a step in this direction. Patients will receive the best of holistic treatment to aid in the recovery process.”
The Heartfulness Chennai facility has a 22-acre green environment with basic infrastructure such as clean and hygienic surroundings, large hall, food and water, electricity, and accessible toilets. The covid-care unit also has a reception desk, which can be reached through phone or in-person, to check availability of the beds and make bookings. The unit will be primarily accepting patients from lower economic strata, who do not have the means to quarantine at home. The facility will also provide healthy catered food to patients and the medical support staff. Medical wastes will be hygienically disposed in collaboration with local medical authorities. Those seeking treatment at the covid-care unit will also be offered guidance on holistic lifestyle practices such as Yoga and meditation for faster recovery.
Dr Raja Amarnath, Managing Director & Clinical lead of CIPACA, said, “It’s our honor and privilege to join hands with Heartfulness organization to set up this COVID unit facility. Being one the world’s largest spiritual training organization, at the need of the hour, they have not only extended their support for COVID care, but also want this to be the best facility with no compromise in the service. CIPACA considers this a precious project and shall deploy Pulmonology, Infectious diseases, Internal medicine and Critical care teams to back up this COVID unit, which is not the usual case with any other regular COVID quarantine center.”
Established in 2015, CIPACA specializes in providing modern emergency and intensive care at secondary and tertiary hospitals. They operate more than 300 emergency and ICU beds, - the largest number operated by any single organization in the rural India, with more than 300 physicians, 500 nurses, administrative and business development professionals. Thousands of global Heartfulness volunteers, doctors are assisting in providing and managing covid care services to the community. The Heartfulness Institute has been operating a free medical center at this venue, offering outpatient medical consultation to the local population, for the past ten years. Several corporates and non-profits have partnered with Heartfulness for this covid-care centre.
