Suriya's plea against the Income Tax Department's order asking him to pay around 3 crores has been dismissed by the Madras High Court by Judge SM Subramaniam. It was only very recently that top Actors Vijay and Dhanush were embroiled in a similar issue for their pleas seeking entry tax exemption for their luxury cars. It is to be noted that Judge SM Subramaniam issued orders in all three cases.

After conducting raids on Suriya's properties in the year 2010 taking into consideration the financial years 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 and ordered to pay 3 crore 11 lakh 96 thousand rupees for the above mentioned financial years.

Suriya's side had approached the court in 2018 seeking exemption saying that the IT department had delayed the case by three years. His side also argued that he is a regular taxpayer with no defaults and he has the right to seek the exemption. Meanwhile, the council of the IT department argued that Suriya did not cooperate during the assessment procedures. The Judge who heard the case ruled in the IT department's favour.

Clarifying about the issue on social media, Rajeskar Panidan, the CEO of Suriya's 2D Entertainment said, "ITax and Interest there on were paid and adjusted in totality with absolute cooperation, as on today there are no dues payable from our side! The dispute is only regarding refund of Interest by department! Appeal will be preferred on receipt and perusal of the original order."

Suriya was last seen in the short 'Guitar Kambi Mele Nindru' directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon in the nine-part Netflix anthology 'Navarasa'. Up next he has 'Jai Bhim' releasing in November. He also has 'Vaadivaasal' directed by Vetrimaaran and 'Etharkkum Thunindhavan' directed by Pandiraj
