Model-turned-Actress Meera Mithun was arrested by the Chennai Police on August 14 after several complaints were filed against her by multiple groups for passing derogatory remarks against the scheduled caste community during an interview on a YouTube channel. She was sent to judicial custody until August 27 by the Saidapet 17th Criminal Court.
The actress, who gained spotlight with her brief stint in Bigg Boss Tamil season 3, is quite infamous for her controversial remarks. She recently drew flak for using a casteist slur and saying that all members of the scheduled caste community should be chucked out from the film industry. Following this, Meera was booked under seven provisions of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Prevention of Atrocities Act.
After she was brought to Chennai on August 15 to be produced before the court, she told reporters, "This is completely police atrocity. I have not been given food for the last 24 hours." She also alleged that the police broke her hand.
The latest update in the case is that the Central Crime Branch Police has given a letter to YouTube's administration to shut down the YouTube channel of Meera Mithun stating that her videos seem to incite to violence.
