Kamal Hassan's two-year old political outfit 'Makkal Needhi Maiam' has released the list of candidates contesting in the upcoming 2019 General elections. The party listed its second list of candidates on 24th March 2019 along with the party manifesto.

The party's founder Kamal Hassan was expected to contest in the general elections, and the official announcement was anticipated from the actor-politician in the second list of candidates. But the actor has refrained from contesting in the elections.

During the party's manifesto release function in Coimbatore, the actor clarified on his decision, saying "I have a lot of work to do for the party.  All candidates are my faces and I am happy being a Chariot puller than being a chariot". The party's official manifesto promises 50 lakh jobs and 100% profit for farmers and a slum free Tamil Nadu.
