The Central Government is in the process of amending the Cinematograph Act 1952 to regulate the film industry across India. Actor Kamal Haasan has condemned the ongoing struggle against the centre to implement the Cinematograph Act 2021.

Kamal Haasan tweeted that cinema, media and education would never be the three monkeys of India that are closing their eyes, mouths and ears and insinuated that one can’t ignore assault to freedom. He asked the public to register their protest against the law, as the centre has advised the public to submit their views by July 2.

Kamal Haasan has condemned the amendment as it would become the biggest threat to the freedom of expression of the creators. Celebrities across India have been raising their voices against the law.

Experts in the film industry have commented on social media that if the cinematography law amendment bill is implemented, the centre will use the film industry politically and suppress those who express their views against them, and that violations could even result in arrest and imprisonment.
