Suriya's 'Soorarai Pottru' directed by Sudha Kongara was released last year at the peak of the pandemic on Amazon Prime Video. The movie opened to roaring reviews and many appreciated Suriya for his performance in the film. It soon went on to become the most-talked about film and a Hindi remake of the same is on cards too.
The movie loosely based on the biography of Capt Gopinath, founder of the low-cost airline, Air Deccan had Aparna Balamurali playing the female lead with music score by GV Prakash. The movie has now won the Best Performance Male and Best film at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2021.
Captain GR Gopinath, whose life story was made into this movie, took to social media to share the happy news. "Soorarai Potru awarded best actor and best film awards at the Indian film festival of Melbourne," he wrote on Twitter. Fans and Celebrities have been showering Suriya with congratulatory messages and soon the hastags #SooraraiPottru and #Suriya starting trending on Twitter.
'Soorarai Pottru' also had an ensemble cast of including Paresh Rawal, Urvashi, Mohan Babu, and Karunas. It was Produced by Suriya and Guneet Monga, under their respective banners 2D Entertainment and Sikhya Entertainment.
Suriya was last seen in the short 'Guitar Kambi Mele Nindru', directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon in the nine-part Netflix Anthology 'Navarasa'. He is awaiting the release of his next 'Jai Bhim' where Suriya plays a lawyer. He also has 'Vaadivaasal' directed by Vetrimaaran and 'Etharkkum Thunindhavan' directed by Pandiraj in his kitty. The title and first look of his upcoming movie was unveiled on July 22.
