Earlier this day, we had reported that six people were arrested by the Hyderabad police when they had threatened the Baahubali producers. They demanded a ransom of 15 lakhs from the producers, and if the makers failed to give that amount, they threatened to release the HD version of the film online.

An official statement from the Deputy Commissioner of Police has been released, in which the entire issue has been explained. The statement reads as follows:

"A special team was deployed for Patna, wherein two other accused A5, Divakar Kumar and A6, Chandran were arrested from Bihar and are being produced before the concerned local court for obtaining transit.

The accused revealed that when the movie is broadcasted in
theatres through UMW digital servers in an encrypted mode with unique watermarks, it generates an encryption key to be used by the distributors, which in turn is used by theatre owners for decryption and display. One of the accused Divakar is the owner of theatre Veena Cinema at Tivhra, Bibusarai District, Bihar.

The accused Monu and Divakar copied the digital HD copy of the movie and created a pirated version of the same to blackmail the producers and also illegally and unauthorizedly upload the same on the internet to make easy money. The case is under investigation.

The general public are warned not to encourage viewing pirated copies of movies or other intellectual property, as it is an offense attracting the provisions of Copy Right Act and also causing irreparable loss to the genuine copyright holder and artists etc."
