The Madras High Court has ruled that internet websites and platforms are banned from releasing/publishing Mersal. About 2650 websites are to be blocked by order to 37 internet service providers, as per the judgment of the High Court today.
With the ongoing ticket pricing playing an influential role in the people's minds about whether a visit to the theatre is actually worth it, pirate websites like TamilRockers are becoming plan B to even ardent film buffs. But this is not the right direction for the movie industry and cinema in general.
This ban is a welcome relief. Whether it will have an actual effect to curb piracy is something we should all think about.
