The central government has proposed restrictions on social networking sites and OTT platforms such as Amazon Prime, Netflix, and Disney+Hotstar.
Accordingly, OTT and digital publishing companies should categorize the movies and content they upload to their sites into five groups: Violent, Adult, Language, Gender, 13+, 16+ (age-wise).
There are three types of audits: U (Universal for all), U / A 7+ (for adults), U / A (for adults) 13+, U / A (for adults) 16+, and A (for adults). In particular, 13 / (adult) films with U / A certification should be set up in parental locks for parental viewing only.
The rules of the Press Ethics Council of Digital Media and the rules under the control of cable TV must be duly followed. Union Minister Prakash Javadekar has said that OTT will now come under the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications of the Government of India.
Apart from these, controversial internet posts should be removed immediately if ordered by the government or the court. Controversial images should be removed from social networking sites within 24 hours of the complaint being lodged. Similarly, the central government has imposed various disciplinary restrictions on defamatory comments on social networking sites.
OTT bodies, meanwhile, don't seem to be happy with the news.
