The Siddique-directed 2001 film Friends is one of the most memorable film's of Tamil cinema, which starred Vijay, Suriya and Ramesh Khanna in central roles while Deviyani and Vijayalakshmi played the female leads. The film recently gained popularity for the sudden resurgence of the film's character Neasamani, played by Vadivelu, due to a popular meme.
In an interview to Behindwoods, Vijayalakshmi, one of the female leads of the film, spoke at length about her experience working in Friends, and about her former co-stars with whom she had shared screen space in the film.
When asked about her on-set experience for working with Vadivelu during Friends she said "We used to struggle during Vadivelu's scenes, During the shoot, one will hear Vijay sir's giggle, then it will be followed by mine. Suriya sir can control laughing on his will, but we could not do that."
Post Friends, Vijayalakshmi had partially lost contact with her co-stars "I used to see him in movie promos when I was in Bangalore. When I shifted to Chennai after my father's demise, I saw him in a movie's promo, I told him 'I was pleasantly shocked by the way he has grown as an actor. Suriya sir also helped me when my mother was very ill.
But I have totally lost contact with Vijay sir. Even today, I am being recognized as Vijay's sister. I still wish how good it would've been if I was Vijay sir's real sister."
