Famous shooting spot and the highly artistic Binny Mill headquarters, situated on Armenian Street bang opposite High Court Chennai, is being demolished today. The 200-year-old heritage building has featured in famous Tamil films and is now facing the process of bulldozing.
Director Pushkar of Vikram Vedha fame took to Twitter and said, “The opening sequence of #VikramVedha was shot in #BinnyHQ Armenian St over 4 days. Sad to see another heritage building in Madras demolished.”
Talking to Behindwoods about the demolition, Pushkar said:
“We wanted to shoot our ‘Va’ (Va Quarter Cutting) movie itself at the Binny Mill headquarters but permission was not granted back then. However, for Vikram Vedha, our stunt master Dilip told us that it could be given out for shoot.
Immediately we decided to shoot at Binny Mills. Some other films like Thupparivaalan and Balloon also had their shoot there. It is now sad that this Binny Mill headquarters is being demolished. Quite an artistic heritage building.”
It is said that films like Mersal and Thaana Serndha Koottam also had a portion of their shoot here.
