Festember, NIT Trichy’s annual cultural festival conducted an outreach event, RRFF 2018, in Chennai on the 26th of August 2018. The fourth edition of the Rolling Reels Film Festival took place at the L.V.Prasad Labs and Auditorium, Saligramam.
The event commenced with a rendition of the Tamizh Thaai Vaazhthu followed by a welcome address by Mr. Adithan Kannan, Director RRFF ‘18.
The panel discussion, the first programme, commenced at 11:00 a.m. The panelists, Director Jayaprakash, Director Mithran and Director Rathnakumar, gave all the spectators a view into the nuances of filmmaking. The discussion was moderated by Actor Arul Mani. The floor then opened for questions, with various panelists answering questions pertaining to their area of expertise. The morning session came to a close after the discussion ended at 1:15 p.m. with the attendees breaking for lunch.
The session resumed in the afternoon at 2:15 p.m. with the editing workshop which was conducted by Editor Ruben. Giving the registrants a thorough understanding into the different types of cuts that are made as part of editing, he went on to explain the effects these cuts have on the audience. The workshop was informative, and had the audience enraptured.
The next part of the festival, that was the screening of the entries that had made it to the top 10, commenced at 4:30 p.m. Judged by Director Mohan Raja, Director N. Lingusamy, Director Jayaprakash and Actor Arul Mani, the screening of the ten movies continued for three hours.
The results were declared soon after, with “5 Paisa Anthyathra”, “Bhoomi” and “Pesum Por Chitrame” securing the first, second and third positions respectively. Special mentions were given to other films.
The dignitaries were then felicitated by the heads of the event. The event came to an end at 08:45 p.m. with Mr. Ranjith Narasimhamurthy, Director RRFF ‘18, delivering the Vote of Thanks.
