Vanjagar Ulagam is an upcoming gangster film directed by debutant Manoj Beedha. It has Guru Somasundaram of Joker fame in the lead role while Anisha Ambrose and Ciby Bhuvana play crucial roles. The film has Sam CS of Vikram Vedha fame as the music director. Rodrigo Del Herrera is the Cinematographer and Anthony takes care of the editing department.
Talking exclusively to Behindwoods about the film, editor Anthony revealed a lot of things.
1) The film has got an A certificate. Was there any attempt to push this towards an U/A or U?
No. We knew this would be an A film and we let it be so. Actually, the term A film should change to 18+. In a few areas, when there is an A certificate on the poster, people assume that it is a porn film.
This film got an A certificate just because of violence. There nothing like A films won't have a good run at the box office. Recently a film named Iruttu Araiyil Murattu Kuththu released with an A certificate and it did pretty well at the BO. IAMK had double meaning dialogues, VU has violence. We are confident that this film will run.
2) In a few films, when there are blood scenes, they are shown in greyscale. Have you done anything like that for this project?
No. The tone and colours used in the film are a strength to it. If the scenes are changed to greyscale, then the essence will be lost. So, we've left it as it is. Be it A or U/A, we didn't worry about it.
3) Any experimentation with respect to the editing?
When it comes to editing, I don't think you can do much experimentation. However, in Vanjagar Ulagam, I've broken a few rules of editing. That's all.
4) How different is it, from other gangster films?
Haha, I think I've to reveal the story then. But, this will be a diffferent film, on the lines of Tarantino's films. I can tell you that this will be a film like Thiagaraja Kumararaja's Aaranya Kandam. I'm not comparing it with that, but the look and feel of the movie will be like that.
