Director Thamira made his directorial debut in 2010 with the Shankar-produced film 'Rettai Suzhi'. In his very first movie itself, he drew attention by casting two top directors of Tamil cinema, K Balachander and K Bharathiraja.

He later made 'Aan Devathai' starring Samuthirakani and Ramya Pandian in the lead. The film met with moderate success.

Thamira had recently contracted the coronavirus infection and was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai for treatment. Unfortunately, he passed away on Tuesday (April 27) morning by not responding to treatment. Many filmgoers are mourning the untimely demise of director Thamira who had much more to give to the art, that is, cinema.

His real name was Sheikh Dawood. He was 53 at the time of his demise and is survived by his wife Faurya and sons Mohammad Rashid, Irshad, Rizwan and daughter Boushiya. His last rites are to be performed in Tirunelveli.

Meanwhile, director Shankar took to Twitter and penned - I am deeply saddened to know about  Director Thamira's sudden demise. I convey my deepest condolences to his family and friends.  May his soul Rest in Peace. (sic)
