Divya Sathyaraj, nutritionist and daughter of veteran actor Sathyaraj wrote a letter to TN Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami highlighting the importance of providing the necessary amounts of nutrition to the students of government schools.
According to the letter, a survey conducted by Divya a few months ago found out that amongst the students studying in government schools, 38 percent boys and 40 percent girls have iron deficiency anemia, and that she had previously raised the concern amongst the authorities of the mid-day meal programme.
Since the ongoing lockdown had resulted in the closing of schools, Divya emphasised the need to provide iron supplements at free of cost to children of lower income groups, as she fears that the deficiency will make them susceptible to COVID 19 as well as other diseases.
