Archana Kalpathi is currently busy with the release of her upcoming magnum opus, Bigil, for which she worked as creative producer. Directed by Atlee, Bigil stars Vijay and Nayanthara as leads and produced by AGS Entertainment. In an exclusive interview, Archana speaks about her experience working in the film.
Archana Kalpathi had expressed that Bigil is indeed a dream project for her production house and she feels overwhelmed by the opportunity to work with the likes of Atlee, Vijay, AR Rahman and Nayanthara.
Archana admitted that coordinating the film's team and handling their budget requirements has been a huge challenge "For a big-budget project like Bigil, the systems and processes in control must be properly done. The absence of even a single artiste or equipment failure can result in the wastage of costs for the entire day."
The pressure was enormous since I wasn't used to handling such huge expenses. I learnt a lot through that process, regarding how to keep checks and balances, creating ID cards for the crew members and so on."
Archana felt that confidentiality was a top priority "For other films, we used to request people to showcase and promote them. We will pay people to take interviews for the cast and crew. We even used to leak some snippets in the hopes of making them trend. But nobody would even bother. But the case is entirely opposite for Bigil. Every information must be shrouded in secrecy."
Archana rubbishes the criticism about the overshooting of budgets in director Atlee's projects "Honestly, a producer needs a good film. The production cost is between a producer and director. Hence a director can't spend beyond the producer's knowledge. I find the criticism unfair since he has given a phenomenal film, and the producer has to spend for the creator's vision."
