Nila, an award-winning feature film starring Vicky R and Shruthi Hariharan directed by Selvamani is about a cab driver and a woman. It won a lot of awards and laurels at the international level and had been talked about in the global film circuit for it’s content. In an exclusive chat with Behindwoods, director Selvamani said:
“Our independent feature film started at the crowd funding level which helped us raise some funds for the making. Nila has Vicky and Shruthi of Lucia fame in pivotal roles. The movie released on Netflix on March 1st and we thought this would be the right platform for our film rather than theatres.
The reason behind this is that, we spent nearly 2 years on Nila and today the shelf life of films that come to theatres is as short as 1 or 2 weeks long. However, when our product that has international recognition gets a platform which makes it available for 8.5 crore subscribers with a much longer shelf life, we thought it would be the best idea.
Also, my next movie will be made for the theatres which is possibly the best platform for portraying our work. Nila can be watched on Netflix and this digital boom gave me confidence that a good product will never go unnoticed. Nila is a simple, straight forward story and it will be loved by one and all as it has been kept true to it’s content with no compromises.”
