A.R.M Arunachalam, a representative of leading production house Lyca Productions, has filed a defamation case against T.Velmurugan who is the President of the Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi. The case states that T.Velmurugan had participated in a live television debate on 25/3/2017, in a reputed news Channel that has wide telecast throughout Tamil Nadu.

The course of discussion at the show was apparently totally false, misleading and highly defamatory which harmed or injured the brand according to the production house. It is said that, at the discussion, it was recorded that Mr. Subash Karan, Chairperson of Lyca Company is having a nexus with the former Sri Lankan President Rajapakse and that out of the ill-gotten funds, Lyca groups have spent on the building of houses and donated these to the Tamil people.

Some important notes that were pointed out in the defamation case that was filed were:

Our client states that in the course of the debate, you, without any basis and with malicious intention, had stated that our client has been sent by the Srilankan Government to Tamilnadu, to justify their acts of genocide of Eelam Tamils. You had passed innuendos as if our client is having a relationship with the SriLankan Government, which is factually incorrect. On the other hand, you had wantonly failed to appreciate the humane and charitable act of our client Lyca Company in having provided shelter to the Eelam Tamils who have lost their houses during the ethnic crisis. The act of Mr. Rajinikanth in choosing to participate in the event was just to appreciate the good deeds of our client and to be a part of the human gesture and to interact with the Eelam Tamils. When such was the case, your verbal assault in the debate that the Srilankan Government have exported our client to the Tamil Cine Industry only to lure the cinema Artists to SriLanka and justify the deeds of the SriLankan Government is highly objectionable, false, baseless, perverse and defamatory. Our client categorically denies any connection to the Sri Lankan Government.

"Our client states that when the earlier movie “Kaththi” had experienced problems at the instance of the local politicians, the Hon’ble High Court of Madras intervened, thus paving the way for the release of the movie and restoring the usage of the name Lyca Productions."

This case ended with the words, “Our client hereby calls upon you to cease and desist from airing your views through any media or in any form whatsoever and also calls upon you to tender an unconditional apology in writing to our client for having aired the said false views and publish the said apology in the media within 24 hours of receipt of this notice. Our client further calls upon you to pay a sum of Rs.10 Crores (Rupees Ten Crores) as damage forthwith failing which our client states that it shall be constrained to initiate appropriate proceedings including Civil and Criminal proceedings against you thereby holding you liable for all costs and consequences arising thereon."
