Actor Vijay has been directed to pay a fine of Rs.1 Lakh by the Madras High Court in a case of paying Entry tax for his imported Rolls Royce Ghost car.
The super luxury car is said to be purchased by the actor in the year 2011-12, and a Writ of Mandamus was filed by Vijay seeking a court ruling ordering the TN Govt and concerned Govt departments to restrain from collecting Entry Tax for his imported Rolls Royce Ghost car.
While delivering the judgement Justice S M Subramaniam came down heavily on the actor's petition describing how an actor of his stature can avoid payment of tax and continued to say that paying tax is one's duty and not like donating an amount on their will
"In this state, film heroes have risen to become rulers, and people are under the impression that these stars are real heroes. Thus, they are not expected to behave like reel heroes. Tax evasion is to be construed as an anti-national habit, attitude and mindset and unconstitutional," observed the Judge.
The court imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on Vijay and asked him to remit the same towards TN CM's COVID Relief fund within two weeks from the date of this order.
