Actor Ashwin Kakumanu made his foray into Tamil cinema with his antagonistic role in director Venkat Prabhu's noirish action film Mankatha, which starred Ajith Kumar and Trisha in lead roles. The actor went on to star in films such as Zero and Idhakkuthaane Aasaippattai Balakumara to name a few.
The actor, in his official Twitter account, revealed that he will be playing a role in director Mani Ratnam's magnum opus 'Ponniyin Selvan', the silver screen adaptation of writer Kalki Krishnamurthy's epic novella of the same name.
Apart from his announcement, Ashwin also gave a major throwback to the days when he worked in the background sound effects for the director's 2004 political thriller Aaydha Ezhuthu, which starred Suriya, Madhavan and Siddharth in lead roles.
The film's ensemble cast include actors Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Parthiban, Jayaram and others. This historical epic will be jointly produced by Mani Ratnam's Madras Talkies in association with Lyca Productions.
