War and Outcome

Russia has been attacking Ukraine from all the sides. People of Ukraine have been sharing their views against Russia on their Instagram pages. In addition, the people of Ukraine have issued strong records against Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Meta, the parent company of Instagram, which usually refers to such posts as 'hate' and disables it, did not do so in the case of Ukraine. Angered by this, Russian authorities have launched a criminal investigation into Meta. At the same time, a request has been made to a Russian court to declare the Meta company an extremist organization.

Ban

In this case, the Russian Government last week told the public that Instagram would not work in the country from Sunday and that people should download their photos and videos posted on it.

About 80 million people in Russia use the Instagram application. The Russian Government recently banned Facebook, which is owned by the Meta company. The Russian Government says that the country's citizens can use local social media.

Shock

Speaking on the occasion, Instagram President Adam Mosseri said, "Instagram has not been active in Russia since Monday. It is used by 80 million people in Russia."

Russia's ban on the world's leading social networking sites, Facebook and Instagram, has come as a shock to the world.

Decline

Shares of Meta fell 3.89 percent to $ 187.61 at the close of trading on Friday following Russia's ban on Instagram and Facebook. The company has been in a slump since last February.
