Police find major drug-smuggling tunnel at US Mexican border - Details

Drug enforcement officials have discovered a huge underground mine on the US-Mexico border.

Mexico is a country in North America. Police have received reports of a large-scale smuggling of narcotics from Mexico to the United States, where drug gangs are said to be concentrated. Authorities then patrolled the Mexico-US border in the state of California. Police have noticed a large influx of cars into a warehouse on the US border at the time.

Following this, the police surrounded the storage depot. Only later did authorities discover that there was a huge underground tunnel inside the warehouse.

Authorities said the tunnel, which was 61 feet deep and 4 feet in diameter, had special vents set up to allow air to enter. Authorities also said the road was protected by a concrete wall and had an electrical facility inside.

Authorities arrested six people from the warehouse and filed a lawsuit, seizing 1,762 pounds of cocaine, 164 pounds of meth and 3.5 pounds of heroin from the gang.

Randy Grossman, a U.S. attorney for the Southern District of California, said in a statement: "There are no lights at the end of this drug tunnel. Measures are being taken to prevent illegal drugs from entering our area. 

Authorities say an investigation is underway into how long the tunnel has been in use and how to catch the smugglers involved.
