War

Russia has strongly opposed the decision, citing Ukraine's willingness to join the European Union. Following this, President Putin presented a request to the Russian Parliament for permission to conduct a special military operation in Ukraine. Parliament also gave its approval. Vladimir Putin declared war on Ukraine on February 24.

This is followed by a fierce battle between the Russian military and Ukrainian security forces in Ukraine. The United Nations says more than a thousand people have been killed and many more injured. Ukraine also claims that 30 million people have so far sought refuge in neighboring countries as a result of the war.

Peace talks

Various negotiations have been held so far to end the war. However they all ended in failure. The Ukrainian Government has said Russia continues to reject Ukraine's request. In this context, Roman Abramovich, one of Russia's richest men, attended the recent peace talks between the two countries.

During these talks, Roman apparently passed the demands of the Ukrainian president to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Putin told the Roman press conference that he was angry and said, "Tell him I will thrash them."

Roman Abromovic, former owner of the famous Chelsea football team, lives in England. Born in Russia, he is one of the richest men in the world. He is also involved in ceasefire talks between Ukraine and Russia.

Reports that Putin was outraged by the demands of the Ukrainian President have been widely reported around the world.
