Sam Mottram lives in the Harpenton area near Hertz, England. His wife's name is Maddie Robertson. Both are 22 years old. They usually pay 1,300 a year in gas and electricity bills. However, both of them are shocked to see the recent bill.

They have been sent a text message from Shell's application asking them to pay the case fee. It said it would pay 1.9 billion euros (19,146 crore rupees in Indian currency) in fees. The couple has only been using the case for a minute.

Speaking about this, Sam said, "Maddie thought I had misunderstood the numbers and was stupid. Yes, it's funny. The announcement came on my phone that I had to update my direct debit. I thought it was a little different. I knew prices would go up, but I did not expect this."

But fortunately no money was withdrawn from the couple's bank account. In the UK as a whole, 15 per cent of the population will be charged only 12.1 billion euros in gas and electricity bills. The - 1.9 billion fine imposed on the Sam-Maddie couple has caused a stir across the UK.

Shell said the error was due to a technical glitch. A spokeswoman for Shell said, "A malfunction in our processor has affected some customers and we do not expect Sam and Maddie to pay for the gas supply provided to others."
