Wuhan’s New COVID-19 Cases: New Cluster Identified with 17 Positive Cases; People on High Alert

The epicentre for the coronavirus, which was identified to be China’s Wuhan city, had reported its first set of cases in December 2019. After over 6 months, the city continues to find new clusters of COVID-19. On Monday, the city reported 17 new positive cases.

This city was under a lockdown that was not lifted until last month. Today’s increase is the highest recorded number since April 28. However this number is the second double digit increase in the city, within the last 10 days. Concerned spokesperson for the Health Commission Mi Feng warned people to “remain alert and step up personal protection against the virus.” She also advised people to “seek medical advice or testing in designated hospitals if they exhibit symptoms such as fever, cough or fatigue”.

Among the 17 new cases, 7 are imported cases, 5 are from the city itself. These 5 people were identified as people who live within the same compound. Further, it has also been confirmed that these were asymptomatic patients who did not show any clinical symptoms such as fever, cough, fatigue, and so on.

Hundreds of asymptomatic patients were identified by the city and are continuously being monitored. Regular testing is being undertaken to keep the infection's spread under control. Further no new deaths related to COVID-19 have been recorded in China in more than a month’s time.
