'Vaccine for All' is Just Months Away: Mass Production will Begin Soon says WHO - Date and Details Here
Home > News Shots > World newsThe World Health Organization has recently announced that one cannot expect widespread COVID vaccination till the middle of next year. A spokeswoman of WHO announced on Friday that this time period is important for conducting rigorous checks on the effectiveness and safety of the vaccine.
According to the global health agency, none of the vaccine candidates who are in the advanced trials at this point have displayed a “clear signal” of efficacy and do not even match 50% of the efficacy level sought by WHO.
The Russian vaccine is already facing backlash since it got regulatory approval within two months of human testing.
"We are really not expecting to see widespread vaccination until the middle of next year," Harris told a UN briefing in Geneva.
"This phase 3 must take longer because we need to see how truly protective the vaccine is and we also need to see how safe it is," she stated.
. "A lot of people have been vaccinated and what we don't know is whether the vaccine works...at this stage we do not have the clear signal of whether or not it has the level of worthwhile efficacy and safety...," she added.
“The WHO and GAVI vaccine alliance are leading a global vaccine allocation plan known as COVAX that aims to help buy and distribute shots fairly. The focus is on first vaccinating the most high-risk people in every country such as healthcare workers,” NDTV reported.
The idea behind COVAX is to procure and deliver almost 2 billion doses of approved COVID-19 vaccines by the end of 2021. However, some countries have secured their own supplies via bilateral trades. The United States is among the list of such countries.
