While the Scientists across the globe race towards finding the vaccine to cure the deadly novel coronavirus, the World Health Organisation on Monday has said that there might not be a “silver bullet” cure.
"We all hope to have a number of effective vaccines that can help prevent people from infection. However, there's no silver bullet at the moment and there might never be," WHO’s Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus had said at an online press conference, on Monday.
This statement regarding how we might never find a cure for the infection has come at a time when nearly 18.1 million people in the world have been affected and nearly 6,90,000 have succumbed to the disease.
He further suggested that people should take public health seriously and continue to be careful and precautious. Continuous testing, tracing the contacts, wearing a mask, washing hands frequently, and maintain social distancing protocols must be given at most importance. “For now, stopping outbreaks comes down to the basics of public health and disease control. Do it all.”
Further, while speaking about the team which landed in China to probe into the origin of the novel coronavirus infection, he said, “The WHO advance team that travelled to China has now concluded their mission to lay the groundwork for further joint efforts to identify the virus' origins. Epidemiological studies will begin in Wuhan to identify the potential source of infection of the early cases.”
