Video: Dubai holds the Tallest Charity Box in the World: Burj Khalifa Lights up the Lives of the Poor!
Home > News Shots > World newsBurj Khalifa, the World’s tallest building in Dubai has recently been part of a huge charity driven mission. Through this mission, it has now been able to successfully raise funds for feeding the worst hit population, by the novel coronavirus in the United Arab Emirate (UAE).
As the economy of Dubai is mostly driven by tourism, religious visits, and business hubs, the pandemic has costed the lives of many. Migrant workers in the UAE have either lost their jobs or have not been paid in months. Similarly, various low-income families are suffering.
In order to help, the 1.2 million lights that are present in the Burj Khalifa were each sold for 10 Dirhams. 10 Dirhams will help provide a meal for one person. Hence, these lights will help feed more than 1 million people. Some of the lights at the top have also been auctioned for sale.
"Hope you have a good solid meal. We take things for granted but life has a way of teaching us how to wake up," said Shereen Harris, who donated, as a public comment on the campaign's website. The organising body The Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) said that they have raised funds for more than 1.2 million meals so far.
This campaign is on a mission to raise funds for 10 million meals to support the poor families.
