95-year Old US Company Announces Permanent Layoffs
Home > News Shots > World newsFounded in 1924, NORPAC Foods, Inc is a farmer-owned cooperative company that processes frozen vegetables and fruit, along with canning vegetables. The company has its headquarters in Salem, Oregon.
Touted to be the largest fruit and vegetable processor, NORPAC has 3 processing facilities in the Willamette Valley in addition to subsidiary Hermiston Foods, LLC in Hermiston, Oregon and a subsidiary Quincy Foods.
The company has increased its permanent layoffs to 1,477 after its recent announcement according to which 38 workers at its corporate office and truck shop in Salem would lose their jobs in January and February 2020.
Reportedly the company had filed its bankruptcy in the month of August and decided to sell its assets to Oregon Potato for $155.5 million. However, Oregon Potato declined the offer later saying that NORPAC failed to submit necessary documents.
Reports say that 28 employees are non-represented and 10 are represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 324 out of the 38 workers.
