Hours after US President Donald Trump instructed his administration to suspend funding to the World Health Organization (WHO) over coronavirus pandemic, UN came out and slammed the President over his decision.

Earlier in the day, Trump, claimed that WHO had "failed in its basic duty and it must be held accountable". Soon after that, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said it was "not the time" to be reducing funds to the WHO or any other organisation fighting the pandemic.

As per a Reuters report, Guterres in a statement, said "it was not the time to reduce the resources for the operations of the World Health Organization or any other humanitarian organization in the fight against the virus."

"Now is the time for unity and for the international community to work together in solidarity to stop this virus and its shattering consequences," the U.N. secretary-general added.

Currently, the US president is under pressure over handling of the outbreak. He has been feuding with the UN agency and been blaming WHO for the gravity of the crisis. With the recent updates, the US has now reported more than 6,00,000 cases of coronavirus, the highest in the world while the death toll has crossed 28,300.
