In a shocking and bizarre case, a college student died in his dorm room (hostel room). Surprisingly, his body was found after two long months when a mysterious smell surrounded the building.

This incident took place at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand.

According to The Washington Post report, the student's body was recovered on Monday night after other students complained of a mysterious smell in the hostel. The student's dad had reportedly contacted the police about his son when all signs failed to get in touch with him.

The body was in a decomposed state that made it difficult to identify the person. So a disaster victim identification team has been informed to check on fingerprints, DNA and dental records to identity the person, The Washington Post further reported.

The identity of the student or cause of the death is still uncertain as the matter is being investigated.

Also, the police in shocked to know that the student's death was not reported or noticed for so long.

Meanwhile, the school's vice-chancellor, professor Cheryl de la Rey, expressed saying that "inconceivable to imagine how these circumstances could have occurred. We are devastated by what has happened and extend our deepest sympathy to the family."

"This is an extremely distressing time for University students and staff," she further added.

Professor Cheryl also assured that the school will help and work together with police to investigate the matter.
