Photos Viral: 65-Year-Old Elephant Lives Life of VVIP, Walks With Own Armed Body Guards
Home > News Shots > World newsDays after a hungry and malnourished 70-year-old elephant, Tikiri, that shocked the nation with its pictures and led to an outcry after his death, a 65-year-old elephant from Sri Lanka is currently making headlines with its photos.
The elephant is identified as Nadungamuwa Raja, who is around 10.5 feet (3.2 metre) in height. Surprisingly, he is the tallest tamed tusker in the country, who has his own armed guards.
According to Times Now report, the government has provided security for this elephant as it moves around to attend temple festivities.
"In September 2015, a motorcyclist very nearly crashed into Raja. After seeing CCTV footage, the government contacted me and offered protection for Raja when he gets on the road," Harsha Dharmavijaya owner of elephant told AFP news agency.
So whenever, the elephant is on the road, two regular handlers along with a military unit clears his path to walk free.This elephant is also know as the unofficial national treasure who is also chosen to carry a casket of Buddha relics in an annual procession of Esala Perahera in Sri Lanka, Time Now further reported.
Its a pride to own an elephant in Sri Lanka, many rich people keep them as pets also. While many complain of ill-treatment and cruelty on them.
