Russia-Ukraine War

Russia declared war on Ukraine on February 24 last month. Today marks the 22nd day of the war. The Russian military is conducting missile strikes in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Mariupol. As a result of the war, about 30 million Ukrainians have fled the country and taken refuge in neighboring countries.

Imprisoned mayor

Ivan Fedorov, the mayor of Ukraine's Melitopol, was abducted by Russian forces last week. Ukraine had strongly criticized the move, saying "Ivan was abducted for refusing to cooperate with Russian forces."

Amidst widespread outcry over the kidnapping of Ukraine's mayor by Russian troops, the United States and other countries have demanded that Russia release Ivan.

Release

It seems that a request has been made from Russians to release their soldiers held captive by Ukraine if Mayor Ivan Feduro is to be released. And therfore, the Ukrainian Government released 9 young Russian soldiers who had been imprisoned which was followed by Ivan Fedorov.

Children

Commenting on the incident, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said, "Ukrainian Mayor Ivan Feduro has been released from prison by the Russian military. We have released 9 Russian soldiers in their place."

Earlier, Ukraine had accused Russia of sending troops to Ukraine for training. Two young men captured by Ukrainian security forces a few weeks ago said, "We were sent for training, but we are being used as a security shield on the battlefield. We do not want war; we want a peaceful life."
