Many nations are grappling with fake news and Russia is mulling about bringing in a strict rule where websites that don't remove fake news within 24 hours might face a hefty fine of Rs 5 crore.

The bill, which already been submitted by the ruling party in the country, if passed, will force social media sites with more than 1 lakh daily visitors and comments feature to take down the inaccurate posts within 24 hours after such posts are reported. The repercussions of not taking down inaccurate posts entitle a fine of up to 50 million roubles or Rs 5 crore approx.
