The chief of World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Monday that the world must be better prepared if the next pandemic strikes. He elucidated on the importance of investing in public health and having better public health care policies in places.

Around 27.19 million people have been affected by the novel coronavirus across the world. The death tally stands at 888,326 according to a Reuters tally.

“This will not be the last pandemic,” Tedros told a news briefing in Geneva. “History teaches us that outbreaks and pandemics are a fact of life. But when the next pandemic comes, the world must be ready – more ready than it was this time,” he added.

The global health agency is currently working on devising strategies for vaccine development, procurement and distribution.
