New York reports more Coronavirus cases than any country
Home > News Shots > World newsWorldwide, New York has reported more coronavirus cases than any other country. It has recorded 1,81,026 cases which are higher than Spain’s cases (1,61,852) and Italy’s cases (1,52,21) as of April 11. Since the novel coronavirus spreads easily in regions that have higher population density and New York has 8 million people, the spread does not come as a shock. Also, the reason for more cases being detected in this region is widely speculated to be extensive testing.
The United States has also recorded the most number of deaths in the world, and the rate of mortality is highest in New York when compared to the rest of the country. Based on the data from the Johns Hopkins University Center for Systems Science and Engineering, New York has recorded 4.7% when compared to 3.4% mortality in the rest of the country.
Adding to this, the mortality rate of New York City is 6% higher than the rate in most countries. The reason for this has been identified as the lack of adequate health care facilities to the poor and minorities. Further among those who died, the black and Hispanic New York workers account for 62%. Recent statistics have also revealed that more men have been affected and died when compared to women.
New Jersey the neighbouring state has recorded 58,151 coronavirus cases and is the second most affected region in the United States after New York. It has also recorded 1,384 deaths caused by the virus while New York has recorded 2,183 deaths.
