8 Lakh INDIANS might be Forced to Leave Gulf Country due to this Bill! Here's Why
Home > News Shots > World newsWhile most of the countries are dealing with the coronavirus pandemic and countering the economic repercussions of the pandemic, Kuwait government passed an expat quota bill on Sunday which limits the number of Indians living in the Gulf country. With the approval of the bill, almost eight lakh Indians might lose their place in the country.
According to local media reports in Kuwait, the National Assembly’s legal and legislative committee has analyzed and approved the draft quota bill to be constitutional. The bill is likely to be transferred to the respective community for them to create a comprehensive plan.
The bill states that the Indian population in the country should not exceed 15 percent of the total population in Kuwait. Kuwait has a total population of around 43 lakh people, among which almost 30 lakh are expats. As per media reports, there are around 12.5 lakh Indians who live in Kuwait and with the approval of the bill, only three lakh will be able to retain their livelihood and stay at the country.
“According to a report, Kuwait Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al Khalid Al Sabah had recently proposed decreasing the number of expats living in the country from 70 per cent to 30 per cent of the total population,” Times Now reported.
Reportedly, the move was taken in order to create more jobs for the local population in Kuwait.
