Irked by the shortage of protective clothing and equipment to fight coronavirus, a group of doctors in Germany have decided to protest against the same by going nude. The protest drew inspiration from the actions of a French doctor, Alain Colombié, who was photographed naked in his practice after describing himself and fellow doctors as “cannon fodder” in the fight against the pandemic.

One of the doctors Ruben Bernau was quoted as saying that the nudity was a symbol of how vulnerable they (doctors) are without protection. The doctors posed in their practices, taking cover behind files, toilet rolls, medical equipment and prescription blocks.

“Of course we want to continue treating patients who still need to receive a close examination,” Jana Husemann, a medical practitioner, said. For that she required proper PPE, she added.

Another doctor said she was “trained to sew up wounds” and asked: “Why am I now having to sew my own face mask?” Despite German companies ramping up production, there remains a shortage of equipment.
