Since ages, the mythical lands of Atlantis and Lemuria have been spoken about; but researchers are having a long time figuring out lands that are long lost under the sea. However, they have found a hidden continent which is roughly the size of Greenland.

The continent is called Greater Adria and some of its lands are still visible even after millions of years. Utrecht University researchers say that the continent broke off from North Africa and was buried under southern Europe 200 million years ago, reports Times Now.

It was also the time the land mass was in one whole continent called Pangaea. It was also the End-Triassic mass extinction period in which half of the marine life went extinct. The location of the lost continent is closer to the mythical Kumari Kandam which was lost during the last ice age, i.e. roughly between 30,000 BCE and 300 BCE.

Speaking of Greater Adria, the researcher said to CNN that "Most mountain chains that we investigated originated from a single continent that separated from North Africa more than 200 million years ago. The only remaining part of this continent is a strip that runs from Turin via the Adriatic Sea to the heel of the boot that forms Italy.”

He also said that compared to Adria, the Himalayas represent a simpler system. “This is not only a large region, but it also hosts more than 30 countries. Each of these has its own geological survey, own maps, and own ideas about the evolutionary history,” the researcher further said.

Whether the continent is part of Gondwana is not said. Gondwana is a continent that existed roughtly about 550 million years ago. India, Madagascar, Antarctica, Australia, Africa and South America were said to be part of the continent.
