Donald Trump Halts US Funding to WHO over Handling of Coronavirus Outbreak!
Home > News Shots > World newsUS President Donald Trump on Tuesday said he has instructed his administration to halt funding to the World Health Organisation (WHO) for allegedly for "Failing in its basic duty" while responding to the Coronavirus outbreak.
"The WHO failed in its basic duty and it must be held accountable," Mr Trump told reporters during his daily press conference at the White House.
Mr Trump said meanwhile a review is conducted to assess the global body's role in "severely mismanaging and covering up the spread of the Coronavirus."
Mr Trump himself has fallen under criticism at home over his handling of the pandemic.
The US funded $400m to the WHO last year while China's contribution was almost $76m in assessed contributions and about $10m in voluntary funding.
Reacting to Mr Trump's remarks, UN Secretary-General António Guterres said now was "not the time" to be cutting resources for the WHO.
