Donald Trump Criticising Parasite: Studio That Distributed the Korean Movie Reacts
Home > News Shots > World newsNeon, the movie studio behind the South Korean film Parasite hit back on Thursday after American President Donald Trump criticised the foreign-language film for winning the best picture at the 2020 Academy Awards.
"Understandable, he can't read," Neon tweeted from its official account with a link to Trump's comments.
Parasite made history when it became the first non-English film to win the top prize at the Oscars in the award show’s 92-year history.
Directed by Bong Joon-ho, the class warfare satire, dominated the night with a total of four wins, including in directing, international feature and original screenplay categories.
Trump, however, knocked the dark comedy during a campaign rally in Colorado. “By the way, how bad were the Academy Awards this year?” he asked the crowd before suggesting an American movie should have won.
“The winner is a movie from South Korea. What the hell was that all about? We’ve got enough problems with South Korea, with trade. And after all that, they give them best movie of the year?” he further continued.
He also lashed out at Brad Pitt who picked up the best supporting actor for his role in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time in Hollywood. "And then you have Brad Pitt. I was never a big fan of his. He got up and said a little wise guy statement. Little wise guy. He's a little wise guy,” the president said.
