Previously it was revealed that the spread of the novel coronavirus, mainly happens when people come in close contact with an infected person. It was also made known that touching surfaces that were touched by an infected person or shaking hands with an infected person, and then touching one’s eyes, nose, or mouth will cause the spread of the virus.

However, after conducting certain experiments, scientists have now revealed that the coronavirus can spread through speaking. This was confirmed after an experiment was conducted to check how many saliva droplets can possibly be produced while having a normal conversation.

The researchers at the National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Diseases and the University of Pennsylvania, studied the kinetics of biological molecules inside a human body, had asked volunteers to repeat the words “stay healthy” several times. While these volunteers spoke into the open end of a cardboard box, the researchers illuminated its inside with lasers, to track the droplets produced by the speakers.

Through this they discovered that around 2,600 droplets are produced by a person while speaking. These droplets are produced in larger sizes when a person speaks loudly. Hence a sick person who speaks loudly, can generate around 1000 droplets which contain the virus. Hence, these researchers have warned that an infected person, talking loudly could increase the risk of spreading the virus.

Although experts, several times before have revealed that there is so much about this virus that are yet to be made known, this new discovery might serve as a warning to curb the spread of COVID-19.
