Best Deal! Company Offers Non-Smoking Employees 6 Extra Paid Leaves
Home > News Shots > World newsAs a good news for non-smoking employees, a company in Japan is offering employees who do not smoke an extra six days off to make up for smokers' cigarette breaks.
This company is a Tokyo-based marketing firm called as Piala Inc; who introduced the policy after an employee complained about cigarette breaks affecting productivity.
According to CNBC reports, the company's office is on the 29th floor; so if anyone needs a cigarette break they would have to go to the basement to smoke. The break would take them approximately 15 minutes; which the non-smokers did not agree too.
This matter was put forward to the company's CEO, Takao Asuka, who then decided to grant six extra days of paid leaves to non-smoking employees as compensation, CNBC further reported.
"One of our non-smoking staff put a message in the company suggestion box earlier in the year saying that smoking breaks were causing problems," said Hirotaka Matsushima, a spokesman for Piala Inc to media. "After which our CEO saw the comment and agreed, so we are giving non-smokers some extra time off to compensate," he further added.
Further explaining over the issue, the CEO stated that "I hope to encourage employees to quit smoking through incentives rather than penalties or coercion".
Ever since this method was introduced; a large number of companies in Japan are coming forward to curb smoking and follow the rule.
